't Veerhuis
The ferry went out of service in 1963 when the Maas bridge was opened, allowing ‘t Veerhuis to grow from waiting room to cosy brown café, terrace and meeting point for cyclists, walkers, villagers and lovers of special beer. It still is, and the terrace is still a great place to be, but since October 2024, Café ‘t Veerhuis has also made a new step towards Brasserie-Eetcafé. So you can indulge there summer and winter.
Maasterras ‘t Veerhuis in summer (May - Sept)
In summer, you can enjoy 7 days a week from early morning until late at night on this sunny terrace by the Meuse. A place that is particularly popular with locals and tourists alike. This is because, from under the colourful parasols, you have a clear view of the boats, water skis and sloops passing by. You can hardly sit closer to the Meuse on a terrace. The Maasterras is an overhanging deck terrace floating above the banks of the Meuse.
On the terrace by the Meuse, you can enjoy lunch dishes and dinner menus, as well as sweet treats and appetisers. After a walk through Wessem or Thorn, treat yourself to a slice of local Limburg flan. Or settle down for a drink with one of the 80+ special beers after a day of cycling or sloop sailing. Or enjoy delicious artisanal ice cream coupes or an ice cream cone in the middle of summer. Located along cycling and walking routes, ‘t Veerhuis is the perfect base for exploring this Limburg region and the place to unwind.
Brasserie ‘t Veerhuis in winter (Oct - April)
During the winter months, the terrace is closed and you can enjoy a delicious meal inside the brasserie on Friday to Sunday. The concept of an inexpensive 3-course choice menu for a fixed low price of 25.50 attracts many local visitors to the former brown café. On Sundays, you can get there earlier for a coffee between walks and possibly a sweet treat. Inside, it's cosy, with candles and plants on the table and a stove in the corner. In the evenings, it fills up nicely with dinner guests and guests coming to enjoy a drink. The perfect place to enjoy warm, inside while outside the storm blows over the Maas and Maasterras. This former brown café is all contemporary, but still exudes all the charm of yesteryear.
As in summer, ‘t Veerhuis is there for everyone in winter too. So whether you want to spend an evening enjoying a 3-course dinner with your partner, eat out inexpensively with the kids with a special children's menu, have a drink and a bite to eat with friends, just a cup of coffee on a Sunday, or whether you want to throw a big - or small - private party.
