Kapeller Kwartier and Kapel in 't Zand
The route begins and ends in the Kapeller Kwartier, at the end of Kapellerlaan. Here stands the Kapel in 't Zand, a Marian church that has attracted visitors for centuries. In and around the chapel, you can see traces of this long tradition, including the procession route and the adjacent Kruiswegpark.
Oude Kerkhof and Kruiswegpark
From the chapel, you walk past the Oude Kerkhof, dating from 1785. This former city cemetery stands out for its unusual layout and the stories that can be discovered there, including via QR codes at various graves.
A little further on is the Kruiswegpark, designed by architect Pierre Cuypers. The park consists of winding paths, statues and old trees and is a peaceful place where nature and culture come together.
Outskirts and Kepelse Meule
Outside the Kapeller Kwartier, you walk through the green outskirts of Roermond. On the edge of the neighbourhood stands the Kepelse Meule, the city's only remaining windmill. Inside the mill is a unique electric grain mill from 1931, which is still in use today.
After this varied walk, you will return to the Kapeller Kwartier, with the city within easy reach.
